Astrid
I went out to lunch with my sisters and the pizza place we went to had pictures hanging all over the lobby area that were colored by children who had eaten there. I noticed on one of the pictures the child's name was Astrid. I was so excited because I have never seen that name anywhere but on here. Astrid is growing on me. What do you think of it? :)Also, how would you pronounce it?

I love it, not as much now as I used to, but still one of my very favorites.I knew a little girl named Astrid and she pronounced it ass-trid so that's how I pronounce it.

Love it. It's one of my favorite names for a girl and since I'm Scandinavian I don't have to care about the ass- thing :)

This is one of my least favorite names. I find the sound of it so harsh/unattractive/unpleasant.I pronounce it ass-trid.

I like it. ASS-trid.
I know it starts with ass, but I still think it's nice.

Astrid is gorgeous. It's great to see it on a real child. I pronounce it, "ASS-trid." I'm American and I have no idea if Scandinavians would pronounce it differently. No doubt the "ass" sound will drive off some people. But if you can survive that, it's a great name.I've always thought that Astrid Linnea or Astrid Sofie would make nice combinations.

It's not really said like ASS-trid but it's very close. Someone mentioned that they said the A like the A in apple. I think that's closer to the Scandinavian (or at least the Swedish) pronunciation.

Oooo, Astrid Sofie is superb! I was always partial to Astrid Solveig or Astrid Sunniva.

I think Astrid is an unappreciated gem of a name, but then again, I'm a sucker for all those lovely Scandinavian names. :) The name really tickles my knees!I pronounce it like 'A-strid', the 'A' being stressed and pronounced as the 'A' in apple (I have a southern U.S. accent, BTW).

I pronounce it the same way also (without the accent). I love the name Astrid, and first fell in love with it when I read a story with a character with that name. I picture it mostly on women in their 40s and such but I've always liked it on girls.

I like Astrid. I think it's pretty but strong at the same time. I would pronounce it AY-strid.
