Re: Arwen?
in reply to a message by TammyS
So here's my issue: I love, love, love the sound of this name. I think it sounds magical, classy, spunky and strong all at the same time. I also love the meaning. But I strongly dislike the way it looks. I have this weird aversion to names w/ 'w's in them. I hate the way they look! Like Tawny, love the sound hate the spelling and for that reason would never use it. Gwen is another one, as is Gwenyth. I thought about going the Guinevere route and using a spelling of Aruen but that looks insanely silly to me and I know will be mispronounced like crazy. :( That aside, going on sound only, I like:
Natalie Arwen
Marissa Arwen
Marinda Arwen (double 'a's too much?)
Kelsey Arwen
Isobel Arwen
Arwen Augusta
Arwen Claire
Arwen Marisol
Arwen Jade

I think Arwen looks pretty, but I get what you mean about names just looking wierd, even though you like the way they sound. I can't think of any examples for me right now, but I know they're out there.
I'm glad that Arwen would be used as a mn though since it's from LotR. If she gets older and doesn't like such things, she might really dislike her name. If it's just a middle name, it's not so bad if that were to happen. Like if you name your kid Skywalker (yes, my boss did) they'd better like Star Wars!
