Ayelet?
This is the first name of an author in a book of essays about motherhood that I have. WDYT of Ayelet? How would you say it?

A friend of mine is called Ajellet (Dutch variant)
I thought it was a nice name. SHe pronouncis it ah-YEL-let

It makes me think of eyelets . . .
. . . as in the little holes your shoelaces feed through on your shoes.
NMSAA.

ditto
In Hebrew, the pronunciation is ah-YEH-let.
I ADORE the name, but wouldn't use it on a child because of the ethnicity tagged onto the back. It's not that it's Jewish that bothers me (I'm Jewish myself), it's that it is so blatantly so that there's no way of escaping it.

ai-YEL-it.
I'm not that fond of the name. I don't particularly like the sound and it would consistantly get mispronounced.

oh I love the meaning of it, pretty
Pronunciation
The Hebrew pronunciation is ai-YEL-et. I have a good friend whose Hebrew name is Ayelet, and I think it's pretty in Hebrew but I don't like it in an English context because it does sound too much like eyelid, eyelet, and "I yell at".

I think the name is pretty cool. It definitely sticks in your head after you hear it. I'd pronounce it ai-eh-LET, so that it wouldn't sound like "eyelid" or Violet.
sounds like eyelid.
I can read hebrew. Its pronounced ay-yah-laht. I'm not sure where the stress is. Reminds me of eyelet. I don't like it.
I was thinking that too.
I agree with Becki. My first thought was eyelet. It's a pretty enough name, but I don't think that I would use it.

It looks like you'd say it like EYE-let, but it's eye-EH-let.
Kind of like the word eyelet... I don't like it too much.
((edited to correct the stress on the pronunciation...))
