Diamond.
I have been thinking about names that are also gems or stones, like Ruby or Crystal. The name Diamond came across my mind. At first I loved it, but the more I said it and actually thought about naming my daughter this the more I thought that it sounded kind of porn-starish. What do you think of the name? Maybe it is more of a middle name??
Also, what other precious stones can double as first names?
TIA!!

I don't think it's porn starrish. Sapphire or Sapphira is, to me, and so is Crystal; but Diamond sounds more antique and conservative to me, even more than Ruby does. Still, it is a bit eccentric and flashy. I think my response would be about similar to my response to the name Winter - it's odd and slightly distracting, but I don't squirm when addressing her.
Porn-starish, like you mentioned
Classy gemstones names imo (I put a * by the ones I would use):
Ruby*
Garnet*
Amethyst*
Lazuli
Agate
Emerald*
Jade
Opal
Sapphire* (although I prefer Sapphira)
Onyx
Amber
Coral* (although I prefer Cora)
Pearl*
Fictional gemstones that would work well as names:
Atlamillia
Cobalt (actually called Cobalt Star)
Corazon
Argon
Tiamat
Pirena*
Alena
Danaya
Ahriman
Ymir*
Isidar Mithrim (I would consider Isidar, but not Mithrim)
Leaf
Moon
Gemerald

I think Diamond sounds sort of suck up upper class, and yes, pornstar-ish.
I like Jade and Amber
I like Jade and Amber
a bit of a GP
but less cutesy than Crystal (another GP). Ruby is definitevely more "namy", as gems go. Jade and Amber are also fine I love Sapphira, but I doubt I would use Sapphire or Amethyst, even though they sound gorgeous. I'm unable to explain how I draw the line between ok and trashy/cutesy, maybe it's just a matter of habit.

Ruby would have to be my fave gemstone name. I think it's classy and very pretty. Crystal is ok for a mn. I do like Diamond, especially if it's the child's birthstone, but it works better as a mn. I also like Sapphire, Amethyst, Emerald and Opal for mns. Pearl and Jade are pretty and I like those two for fns and mns.
Jade, Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, Garnet, Opal, Pearl....
Diamond is really tacky, sorry.

Yeah, I think Diamond is a bit tacky. I also think of a baseball/softball field, because our JV softball coach made us T-shirts that said "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" in the middle of a softball diamond. Pretty clever, huh? :D
Anyway, some other gem names I love (aside from Ruby, which you already mentioned):
Amethyst - in one of my top combos
Emerald - also in one of my top combos
Sapphire
Moonstone - probably wouldn't use this though
Opal

I really dislike the name Diamond. To me, naming a child Diamond is like naming her Princess. Maybe it's a little better, but it's still trashy.
My favorite stone name is Sapphire.
