1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? I love Francis (or Frances for a girl), but I'm not a Frankie fan. Its sort of how I feel about the nn Lizzie, just doesn't live up to the formal name.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Merrick, different.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? Robin Thicke is helping to bring the name back, this could be a bad thing if you're looking for something striking and different.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Neither, I see both as very strong and solid names.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? Leaf.6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least? Most a toss up between Keith and Robin, least Frankie.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?
I think of Francis as a nerdy guy- really quiet, considerate, sensitive, a loner. Frank/Frankie makes me think of a greasy haired Italian with a Long Island accent :p2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.
Drew3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?
It sounds soft or weak to me. I prefer Robert, which I love.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
Keith5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?
LEE-f6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Marshall the most. I used to not think much of it, but my brother who is 7 has a best friend named Marshall and he is such a great kid and it suits him to a tee. Nice, courteous, cute, funny, athletic, smart- just a great kid who everyone loves. So that is what Marshall makes me think of. It will age well, and to me it suits a kid as well.
I like Robin and Keith the least. They are such weak names and make me think of people with no personality at all.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?
I know a Francis called Frank. He's a stand-up kinda guy, very solid guy, a man's man, goodlooking and hardworking. So naturally that's what I think of the name too. He strictly goes by Frank, however; very few people know his name is Francis. I think he's slightly embarrassed by it, though I think it's perfectly fine.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Merrick.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?
I have two images of Robin on a boy: Christopher Robin of Winnie the Pooh fame, and Batman's sidekick (I definitely prefer Chris O'Donnell to Burt Ward!). Christopher Robin is neither soft nor weak; he's just a little boy. But his fn is Christopher, so maybe he shouldn't count. Chris O'Donnell's Robin kicks ass. Let's go with that. ;D4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
This is tough for me because I don't think either of them is really nerdy. Uh... Keith. But it's a 51/49 split.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?
Leaf.6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Merrick best, and Keith least.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? When I hear Frankie, I immediately think "Italian." Francis makes me think "effeminate, chubby boy," and Frank sounds very macho to me. 2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Merrick.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? I think it's masculine. I love it for a boy. I've never liked it for a girl. 4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Probably Keith.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? "Lafe" (to rhyme with Rafe)6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least? Most = Leif or Frank (but I prefer Frank via Franklin).
Least = Francis or Keith.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?
♦ 'Middle aged man' is my immediate impression, but I can see it being fresh for a little boy.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.
Drew wins hands down, it's very handsome. Merrick is the name of a comedian here whom I don't particularly like, so it's tainted for me.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?\
♦ It's fine, definitely masculine4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
Marshall, but neither is particularly nerdy.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?
♦ In my head I pronounce it the same as 'leaf' even when I know it's wrong6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
♦ Most: Drew. Least: Merrick.Drew Marshall would be handsome as handsome.

1. Francis, not very fond of it, sounds very feminine to me. Frank is ok, but it reminds me of someone with a dead end life.2. Merrick3. Robin does sound somewhat soft and weak to me. I think this is because if my brother had been a girl my parents would have named him Robin.4. Marshall is definately nerdier!5. Layf though Ive heard people prn it like Leaf6. I like Merrick best and Robin least.-Tate

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? I have a mixed feelings about how I see Frank as a nickname. One of my personal associations (a great uncle) was a really kind man and another was a wife-beater (my aunt's ex husband). Francis is quite traditional to me, especially with it being a saint's name.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Drew, though I dislike nicknames as first names. I dislike surnames as first names even more though.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? I don't think it sounds soft or weak. I associate it moreso with a kind and caring individual like the character, Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Marshall, because it reminds me of Eminem.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? LAYF6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? Way cute on a girl. Not my favorite on a boy, especially Frank. Like it much better on a girl. But I have a bad associations with Frank. If I were to hear it on a boy, I wouldn't think it was bad or dislike it, but would love it. 2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Drew3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? It sounds sissy4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Marshall is nerdier5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? "Lee-If" But I don't really know.6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Francis and Drew.

1. I really like Francis, and I'd prefer Francie over Frankie when they're little, but Frank and Frankie aren't bad. The only stereotype I have is for Frankie. It reminds me of gangsters from Brooklyn.2. Drew3. I think Robin is fine for a boy. It's not the most masculine name, but I like it better on a boy than a girl. You could call him Rob for short. It always reminds me of Christopher Robin.4. I'd say Marshall is nerdier, but I like it better than Keith. I've always despised Keith for some reason.5. Leaf. Like on a tree.6. The one I like the most is Francis, and the one I like the least is Keith.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? Francis always seemed a little soft to me, and Frank always gave me the impression of a jerk. Frankie seems okay for some reason though.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. Merrick, great name, great sound. I don't care for the sound of Drew, plus I only see a word with it.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? I don't think that Robin is very masculine, nor do I think that it's soft or weak. I'm not crazy about Robin on either gender, but it's nice. I have known a couple of girl Robin's and one guy Robin. He is a great guy, very friendly and funny, reminiscent of Robin Williams actually : )4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Hmm, nerdier ... I'd say Keith, judging by sound. I'm not crazy about either name, I've known a couple of Keith's, never met a Marshall.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? I vary, my first instinct is LEEF, but then I change it to LAYF.6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Merrick the most, and Keith the least.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?
I love it. Francis is a bit soft for my taste but Frank is wonderful. It will age well, and give your boy options. I see Francis as a sensitive boy who likes poetry but at the end of the day Frank can sit back and watch football with the boys.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.
Drew, though I don't particularly like either.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?
I love it, but mainly because I dislike Robert but love Robbie. 4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
Marshall, I don't see Keith as nerdy at all. I can't say the same for Marshall.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?

6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Robin and Frank/Francis the most. I dislike Merrick quite a lot. It doesn't fit with the rest of your names.

1. Francis: it's past its prime by a couple generations. The only time I've seen it recently was it was tattooed on the arm ofa very fat girl at Wal-Mart. Inside a red heart. She was a sight.
Frank: Sounds a bit like a duck honking. But if you're going to use it, I'd rather it be the full name rather than short for Francis.
Frankie: Definitely doesn't age well. On a little boy it makes me think of a bratty troublemaker. On an adult I keep expecting him to have a mobsterish nn like Frankie "The Chicken" Tortellini or Frankie Blue-Eyes O'Donnell. I just can't take it seriously.2. I guess Drew, but I'm not happy about it.3. I like Robin a lot on a girl, but it just doesn't seem very masculine on an American boy. I can see a British boy carrying it better. I like Robert much much better.4. Neither name is nerdy. Every Keith I ever met, no exaggerations, was a loudmouth, greasy-looking redneck. The kind who gets into fights in parking lots, wrecks cars he spent most of his paycheck fixing up, thinks beer is akin to water, and has a passel of grubby, foul-mouthed kids bya slew of trashy, foulmouthed women. The kind of women that will have his name tattooed on their fat arms. lol
Marshall is studious but not nerdy.5. I say Leif like leaf. That's all I've ever heard it as.6. I really only like Marshall, and I'd keep it in the middle name spot, probably.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie
I love Francis and Frank (I prefer Frank on it's own as it was my grandad's name but it's good as a nn for Francis). I don't like Frankie as much as it reminds of Frankie Howerd and Frankie Boyle (both comedians) so it's rather a comical name to me.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.
Drew. (Merrick reminds me of the Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick).3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?
I wouldn't say very masculine (I tend to associate that with names such as Hunter/Cutter/Gunner and the -adens). But it's not a weak-sounding name either. It's hard to describe, I find it both masculine on a boy and feminine on a girl. I'd say it was 'sensitive-' and 'caring-' sounding for a boy.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
This is hard, neither of them strike me as particulary 'nerdy' but I think I'd said Marshall (Keith is more of a 'down at the pub with my mates' name, one of the lads).5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?
LEEF but I've only ever seen it written down never spoken. I do know LAYF is listen on the entry but LEEF is the way I've said it in my head. I've not really paid enough attention to it to make LAYF come automatically.6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least?
I like Francis the most.
Marshall is the one I dislike.

Warning: I'm probably going to be no help whatsoever, but these were interesting questions - I had to answer them. ;o)1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? Depends on whether Francis will be used on a girl or boy. Francis-nn-Frankie-on-a-girl is deliciously old-fashioned, but also uncommon enough to be refreshing. I'm thinking along the lines of Frankie & Johnny, I guess. :o) (I know this is completely unneccessary info, since you're having a boy, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway). Francis-nn-Frankie-on-a-boy is stereotypically "Mafia" to me. Not necessarily old-time mobster feeling, but definitely an Italian-American tough guy vibe. Francis-nn-Frank, though, doesn't have the same association. I guess that makes me think middle-class, middle-aged white male. What a difference a suffix makes, eh? 2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. I personally like Drew better than Merrick BUT I've come across enough young Drews lately that if I were having a boy, I'd definitely be looking at Merrick.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? Eh, neither? Robin is planted right in the middle of unisex territory for me - I make no assumptions until I see who's carrying the name. Now, when I do see Robin on a boy, I don't think "bird" or "girly;" neither do I think "strong & masculine." I guess the only thing that goes through my mind is the mild query as to whether Robin is his given name or a nn for Robert.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Nerdier?! As in "Revenge of the Nerds" nerdy or Dr. Spencer Reid from "Criminal Minds" nerdy? (http://www.impawards.com/1984/revenge_of_the_nerds.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Criminal_Minds_.jpg 3rd from left for those of you not familiar w/my references) That's really a tough call - I can see both on sexy intelligent men as well as dyed in the wool, pocket protector wearing, surgical taped glasses guys.

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?I love Frankie as a fn or nn on a girl, but I think you mean for boys. So I like Francis to go by Francis or Frankie. My impression is that it sounds a little weak by itself, but Francis Ford Coppola has no problem pulling it off - I love his name. I guess for a stereotype I would guess he's Italian, but I didn't think of that immediately, I had to think of a what a sterotype might be.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.I like Merrick more, but I wouldn't like the nn Mer.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?It doesn't sound very masculine to me, but again Robin Williams pulls it off fine.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?Marshall sounds nerdier, but in actuality I know more nerdy Keiths and one very cool Marshall nn Marsh.5. 4. Marshall. Keith isn't nerdy at all IMO
5. Leef, as in leaf on a tree

1. Francis, called Frank/Frankie. I like it. I prefer Frances for girls, and since Francis for boys isn't enjoying the same revival, being a male Francis today might not be so fun. I'm starting to LOVE Frank, however. It has a sort of no-nonsense, all-boy, mid-century feel that I find refreshing in a world of Aidans, Cadens, and Bradens. I have two impressions for Francis, nn Frank/Frankie: 1) an older, Catholic man, or 2) a baby boy whose (brave) parents have a taste for names like Robert, Charles, Anne, and so forth.2. Drew. Merrick makes me think of Merck Pharmaceuticals.3. Robin for a boy: falls somewhere in between "very masculine" and soft and weak. Masculine in a soft way, perhaps?4. Which is nerdier? Keith5. LAYF, but this is one where I would need to ask. I've heard LEEF, LAYF, and LIFE.5. Most favorite: Frank
Least favorite: Leif

1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype?
  • I don't really have a stereotype, but I have two impressions of the name -- one is St. Francis; he was a favorite when I was younger. He loved animals and his prayer was about peace. The other is a kid I went to grade school with; he went by Frank, and the characteristic that stands out the most was that he had awful sinuses and his nose was always running whether he bothered to wipe it or not. Probably kind of random, but for those reasons, I like Francis but not Frank.2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick.
  • Oh, that's difficult. I do like them both, but I'll go with Drew right now because I would fear Merrick being called Rick. It's not a bad NN; my cousin is Rick, but I don't like it as much as Drew. I do like Merrick as a whole, though.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you?
  • I can understand the "soft" impression; a robin itself has delicate connotations. I think I like it better for a boy, but no, I don't think if feels particularly masculine. I'd be hesitant with it.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall?
  • Marshall5. How do YOU pronounce Leif?

I guess Keith is a little nerdier to me, just because a boy I went to school with named Marshall was a major jock and pretty-boy.5.
