It's sweet but not saccharine. I prefer Lucy by itself not only because I think it stands perfectly well alone, but also since I don't particularly care for Lucilla, or Lucille, and I'm only lukewarm for Lucinda. I think Lucasta has appeal and could see Lucy as a feasible nickname for that, but otherwise I prefer it on its own.
