Re: Adeline

Oh, how gorgeous! I love how you incorporated other forms of her name into your suggestions. Elspeth Adeline and Elsa Kathryn are fabulous, and the nn Mae for Mary Adeline - how cute is that?! Kateri is really interesting me too, but I'm curious, what's the correct pronunciation?
Now that you've got me wrapped up in variants of Elizabeth, what are your thoughts on Liesel Adeline? You think Liesel needs a full name to fall back on, or is it fine on its own?
Thanks so much, you've given me a lot to think about! I always look foward to your responses, Bear, you always have such wonderful and creative ideas. :)

They also serve who sit and name. :-)
I'm so happy you like Elsa. It's one of my all time favorites that just doesn't get the attention it deserves. Mary / Mae does work very well with Adeline, doesn't it? Glad you like it.
Kateri is pronounced "KAH-ter-ee." I wondered myself and obsessively looked until I found a website devoted to St. Kateri Tekawitha (sp?). They had the pronunciation listed phonetically. It is a Native American form of Katherine.
Love Liesel! The Sound of Music is a great way to honor your grandmother who I'm sure belted out, "High on a hill lived a lonely goat herd. Lady-oh-de-lady-oh-de-lay-hee-hoo!"* I do think it needs something longer, like Elisabeth or Anneliese or even Elsa. Is Liesbeth a real name? I prefer the spelling Liesl, though for two reasons. One, Liesel reminds me of "diesel fuel." Two, how often do we get to legitimately put an "s" right next to an "l?"
Liesel / Liesl Adeline is not the easiest flow, but it's not the worst either. Hmmm. Liesel Kathryn? Elizabeth Adeline, nn Liesel? Adeline is a variant of Adelaide / Adelheid / Heidi / Adele / Adela / Ada / Adelheidis / Alice / Alix, if that helps. Liesel Adelaide? (I thought of pointing that out in my first response, but I was afraid that I was getting too far from the "Sweet Adeline" theme.)

:) Yes, she did love The Sound of Music, which rubbed off on my mother, who passed it along to me. And now after a bit of googling, I see that it is in fact spelled Liesl in the play. I think I'm in love! Not only does it honor the Elizabeth in my grandmother and her love of music, but it honors the other side of my family, the German side. :D:D:D And yeah, it looks like Liesbeth is a name! I'm getting real excited about this...
So, Elisabeth Adeline and Liesbeth Adeline, both nn Liesl, are looking real good to me right now. Thanks so much again for all your help. :D
