Adeline
Music was huge part of my late grandmother's life. There was never a time when she wasn't singing or the radio wasn't playing in their house, and you can tell it's rubbed off on all of her children. She loved to sing, and she was good at it too. In fact, she used to sing for radio commercials (live, because that's how they had to do it back then) for money. She had to work numerous jobs at a time because she was a single mother of eight children. So basically, she was a very wonderful woman with a passion for music. I found out today that she was a part Sweet Adelines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Adelines_International). Ever since then, Adeline has been growing on me. I thought it would be a neat way of subtley honoring her, since her name was kinda boring (Kathryn Elizabeth).I'd probably only use Adeline as a mn, as it's becoming quite the trend. Eve Adeline and Willa Adeline came to mind, but I'm not really set on it. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

I love Adeline, and it was my favorite for years. I think it's easily combined with other names, everything sounds beautiful next to Adeline. (I mean ofcourse that Adelines beauty rubs off...)
Eve Adeline and Liesl/Liesbeth Adeline are both wonderful.

That's such a sweet connection, and Adeline is a gorgeous name. I love it because it was Virginia Woolf's birth name. Eve Adeline flows better than Willa Adeline, but I'm not sure about it. Part of me likes its spunk, but part of me wants another consonant to break up the vowels.

I like Adele better.Eve Adeline is nice though I prefer Evelyn Adele.

Oh, the song "Sweet Adeline" is why I love the name so much. The connection to your grandmother is warming my heart. I'd love to see you use it one day.Willa Adeline is a lovely combinaiton. While I love the name Eve, it doesn't combine the best with Adeline to my ears. I don't think of Kathryn Elizabeth as boring at all. But if you are looking for something different, how about:Eliza Adeline
Elspeth Adeline (nn Elsie?)
Elsa Kathryn
Ella Kathryn (Ella is from Elizabeth, plus it would honor Ms. FitzGerald, if your G-ma was into her music)
Elena Kathryn
Kateri Adeline
Sophie Adeline (Sophie Tucker fans?)
Billie Adeline (Ms. Holiday fans?)
Melody Adeline
Genevieve * Adeline (nn Evie?)
Mary Adeline (nn Mae?)
Dulcie Adeline (Dulcie = "sweet")Well, that was fun, thanks. Let me know if you like any of these.
* Genevieve is another barbershop quartet favorite. If you ever see the British comedy/movie from the 1950's called "Genevieve" you'll hear the song in the middle of the film. (It's about vintage cars and the amateur collectors that get all wrapped up in them. One of the characters has named his car Genevieve.)

Oh, how gorgeous! I love how you incorporated other forms of her name into your suggestions. Elspeth Adeline and Elsa Kathryn are fabulous, and the nn Mae for Mary Adeline - how cute is that?! Kateri is really interesting me too, but I'm curious, what's the correct pronunciation? Now that you've got me wrapped up in variants of Elizabeth, what are your thoughts on Liesel Adeline? You think Liesel needs a full name to fall back on, or is it fine on its own? Thanks so much, you've given me a lot to think about! I always look foward to your responses, Bear, you always have such wonderful and creative ideas. :)

They also serve who sit and name. :-)
I'm so happy you like Elsa. It's one of my all time favorites that just doesn't get the attention it deserves. Mary / Mae does work very well with Adeline, doesn't it? Glad you like it. Kateri is pronounced "KAH-ter-ee." I wondered myself and obsessively looked until I found a website devoted to St. Kateri Tekawitha (sp?). They had the pronunciation listed phonetically. It is a Native American form of Katherine. Love Liesel! The Sound of Music is a great way to honor your grandmother who I'm sure belted out, "High on a hill lived a lonely goat herd. Lady-oh-de-lady-oh-de-lay-hee-hoo!"* I do think it needs something longer, like Elisabeth or Anneliese or even Elsa. Is Liesbeth a real name? I prefer the spelling Liesl, though for two reasons. One, Liesel reminds me of "diesel fuel." Two, how often do we get to legitimately put an "s" right next to an "l?" Liesel / Liesl Adeline is not the easiest flow, but it's not the worst either. Hmmm. Liesel Kathryn? Elizabeth Adeline, nn Liesel? Adeline is a variant of Adelaide / Adelheid / Heidi / Adele / Adela / Ada / Adelheidis / Alice / Alix, if that helps. Liesel Adelaide? (I thought of pointing that out in my first response, but I was afraid that I was getting too far from the "Sweet Adeline" theme.)

:) Yes, she did love The Sound of Music, which rubbed off on my mother, who passed it along to me. And now after a bit of googling, I see that it is in fact spelled Liesl in the play. I think I'm in love! Not only does it honor the Elizabeth in my grandmother and her love of music, but it honors the other side of my family, the German side. :D:D:D And yeah, it looks like Liesbeth is a name! I'm getting real excited about this...So, Elisabeth Adeline and Liesbeth Adeline, both nn Liesl, are looking real good to me right now. Thanks so much again for all your help. :D
