Jade pronunciation
Jade is one of my favorite names. Recently I heard it pronounced "zha-DAY" instead of... well, "Jade". It was on a little boy. What do you think of that?

I can see how Jade could be pronounce zha-DAY. I, personally, prefer Jade to be pronounced JAYD.

JAYD... The only way i'll ever pronounce it.

I don't like that pronunciation at all. I like the regular Jade pronunciation.

I personally think it's stupid. I suppose it could be a legitimate French word, but I somehow doubt it. BTW, am I the only one who's noticed we have two Jen's on this board? I believe the other one (log in name: pickett) has been here longer.

Changed posting name...Thanks for telling me, Isla. I'll be Cora from now on.

I noticed, too....And yeah, the other Jen is Marilyn Alisandra's mum, and she's been here quite some time.Array

I think pronouncing it any other way than JAYD is trying way too hard. The poor child is constantly going to be telling people how to say his name, when from the spelling it seems like it should be a no-brainer.

I find it pretentious and ugly.

Sounds a bit like a French pronunciation, I think. "Jade" means the same in French as it does in English. I'd only use the name on a girl, and pronounce it 'jayd'.
