Well, I'm happy to see that all of the rumors about Aiden proved to be untrue. I still like the name, despite its popularity. I do wonder where it would land if spelling variations for all the names were combined...

I'm still in the middle of adding together boys' spellings, but already I can tell you that when that is done there were 27,441 boys named Aiden, Aidan, Aden, Aedan, Aidyn, Aydan, Ayden, or Aydin in 2006. And there were only 25,561 boys named Jacob or Jakob. So Aiden probably really was the #1 name of 2006, -- and that's not adding in any of the boys named Adan, on the grounds that some of them are Hispanic boys given the Spanish name pronounced "ah-DAHN", but it's a good bet some of the Adans are just respellings of Aidan, too. :)
