Laura
Opinions on this name? Have you met any babies/toddlers lately named "Laura"? It seems I hear "Lauren" a lot, but not the more traditional "Laura." Just wondering why.

I really like the name Laura - it's beautiful and reminds me of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The only Lauras I know of are teenagers or adults.

I really like this name. I never really hear/see it on little girls these days. Every now and again you might see a Laura in the birth notices, but it's certainly not common. It's a pretty name and I think it's more of a classic type name really. Maybe parents aren't looking for classics at the moment? Actually that's obvious with all the -den/-dyn, -lyn/-lin, mc-/mac- names around!

It's nice, classic, but not a personal favorite. I don't ever hear it on little kids, but it doesn't sound old to me. I tend to prefer Lorraine or even Lauren.

My name is Laura. I love it (but I'm a little biased, I guess). Personally, I can't stand the name Lauren (because I get called that constantly and it drives me crazy). I'm not sure where Idony lives, but I was born in the 80's and I have only met... around 4 Lauras in my life. I've met more Laurens and Lauren was actually higher on the popularity list in the 80's than Laura. But anyway, I agree with what a lot of other people have said. It's simple, timeless, modest, sweet, but strong. Also, it's used almost internationally and is popular in other, non-English-speaking countries. I like that too. I'm glad it's my name. =)

Laura is a classic name, and Lauren is dated to the 80's and 90's. I also like Lauren as well.

I really like Laura a lot, but I worried it was too trendy for a while, until I looked it up hereIt is the name of a niece of one of my imaginary friends, and she is two. However, she is not real.

I haven't met any one under ten with the name Laura and I honestly don't understand it. I think it is a beautiful name and the ending is much softer than Lauren. Laura to me is the name of someone who loves to read and smiles and laughs a lot.

I like it. Yeah, you do tend to hear more Lauren than Laura.

I also have a sister named Laura. I don't know where you live, but it was overused in the eighties here, much more so than Lauren. I think people are giving it a rest now. I think I'd quite like it if it weren't for the popularity in my age group (early 20s), there were five girls in my class of 25 named Laura at school.

Laura is my sister's name. She doesn't like it very much, but I love it. I'm not really sure why Lauren is used more often, but I do know it bothers my sister... she's been called Lauren, Laurie, Lorraine, etc. since pre-school. That's the only flaw I have against it-- it gets confused with so many other similar names.ETA: My sister will be 20 in October... most of the Laura's I've met are older than me. I haven't seen many babies with the name.

I think it's a very pretty name. It's my sister's name. She's 17, though... not a baby. I prefer Laura to Lauren, even if Lauren is more fashionable right now.

I do hear Lauren more, but I prefer Laura. (Even more Lara)
I think it is a very cute name.

I think Laura is a lovely name - it's sunny and straightforward, unassuming and strong. I guess it's just a little out of fashion these days, especially compared with Lauren.
