Opinions on Dorian?

I have always liked the name Dorian. I have seen the name in some posts recently so I thought I would ask your opinions on it.

I really like the Ancient history of the name. The Dorians were a Greek Tribe in Ancient Greece.

Please tell me your opinions?

Does Dorian Jacob flow well?

I love Dorian. It's heavily connected to "The Portrait of Dorian Grey" by Oscar Wilde, and the title character was not a very 'nice' one, so to speak. LOL. But I still love the name. It's handsome and classy, IMO.

It's okay, though for some reason it seems borderline-trendy to me. My first reaction is Zach Braff's character JD from Scrubs-- his "real" name is John Dorian, Dorian being his last name. That's not a bad thing, of course. :D

And yes, I think Dorian Jacob sounds very nice.

I second Array's comments.

Dorian Gray is not someone I would want to name my child after. I'm rather superstitious when it comes to names.

The association with the "dorian mode" in music is too strong for me, personally. But I wish I knew someone named Dorian.

My DH loves this name because the dorian mode is his favorite. I, however, could never see naming a child this. I don't know why. I think I dislike names that start with "d." I like the -ian ending, though. I love names like Adrian and Julian, etc.

I have a hard time getting past Dorian Gray. The only other Dorian association I have was a kid in jr high and highschool who was always high. Dorian Gray is a better association.
Dorian Jacob flows well, though.

Love it. Does make me think of Dorian Grey, though.
I'm just a sucker for -an guy's names like Adrian, Fabian and Dorian.

I don't like it.

It's nothing to do with the name itself. It's handsome, and it carries itself well. However, I have a deep and abiding lover for Oscar Wilde and, more than that, for The Picture of Dorian Gray. I couldn't ever call a child Dorian--I'd feel like I was tempting Fate into turning him into a nogoodnik. ;)

The only character in that book I'd even think of naming a child after is Basil.

I can see your point entirely :) But I guess I could look at it as Dorian Gray did try to repent and kill his conscience by stabbing the painting but he killed himself in the process.

I guess it would look worse if he never felt guilty at all :) So I guess I can look past the Dorian Gray connotations :)

It definitely makes me think of Oscar Wilde! You won't use Gray as MN instead of Jacob, right?

The only Dorian I ever knew was okay- he was my boss a long time ago.
He was very energetic and a bit goofy.

I like it, and Dorian Jacob is pretty handsome.

+ I really, really like it. Just wanted to be sure you didn't think I was just like "Oh, sure, it's nice." No, it could someday be a contender. I do like it.
