Weird Nickname

I work as a fitness instructor and one of my client's wives has just had a baby girl, they've called her Alice Katherine, but the father is calling her Ally Kat. I couldn't believe it when he first told me and i'm beginning to wonder whether they named her Alice Katherine just for this nickname. It's pretty without the nickname. They also have two sons Shawn and PeterWDYT?
