Weird Nickname

I work as a fitness instructor and one of my client's wives has just had a baby girl, they've called her Alice Katherine, but the father is calling her Ally Kat. I couldn't believe it when he first told me and i'm beginning to wonder whether they named her Alice Katherine just for this nickname. It's pretty without the nickname.

They also have two sons Shawn and Peter

I think Ally Kat is really cute. I don't see anything wrong with it...

I think that Ally Kat sounds really tacky. I like the name Alice Katherine though.

Bleah.

Alice Katherine is nice. Ally Kat is so artificial it's crafted. I don't care for forced cute nicks like that. If, say, a girl named Alice is spontaneously called Ally or even Ally-cat when she's old enough to be addressed with endearments, I'm fine with it. But if it's as you say -- yuck.

Hmm... maybe that's just his own petname (no pun intended) for her. Hopefully they introduce her as Alice, not Ally Kat. Alice Katherine is a pretty combo, though.
