Sharon, to me, is outdated. It's a name I associate with women born in the fourties and fifties, a baby boomer name.

Hm, in the Netherlands Sharon is pretty often used. I kind of like it, but I like Sharona better.

I've known a few around my age (one of whom was British), as well as women who are older than I am (I work with one currently; she might be in her late thirties), so it doesn't seem particularly dated to me. A bit bland for me personally, but I don't hate it either. I think Sharona has a hipper feel to it.

Sharon is my middle name - it's the "s" in Emmasj. It is also my grandmother's middle name - she is Kay Sharon.

I hate it, but that's probably mostly because it belongs to me. I also hate the name Emma, so . . . yeah.

I rather like it. I think it's unusually feminine for a name ending in -on ... it's one of those "strong," dignified names.

I noticed BtN lists it as unisex. I have never seen an English speaking guy with first name Sharon, though. It'd be like a 'boy named Sue,' where I live.

I'm partial to the name Sherry, which I think can be short for Sharon. I don't think I'd spell it any other way, but Cheryn or Cheron as a combination of Cheryl and Sharon isn't totally unappealing to me. Sharon is dated, but it does not sound hopelessly out of fashion to me.

I hate it. Its my mum's name so for a start it isn't the best association, but all Sharons are chain-smoking, middle aged and way over-the-hill (well everyone I know is). I don't think it is a nice sound, and it isn't ready for a comeback yet

I like Sharon. A lot. It's a pretty name, and I prefer it over Karen, though I like that too. I never really gave it much thought until I saw the movie Silent Hill, where the little missing girl is named Sharon da Silva. In the original game it was actually Cheryl, but I dislike that. I think it's pretty, underused, and ages well IMO.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the name, but I think it'd be fine to name a little girl Sharon. As for people spelling it differently all the time... that just bothers me, it looks best the way it was meant to be spelled.

I have a hard time liking Sharon that much as I connect if with other out dated sounding names like Shirley, Sherry, Sheryl, Shannon and Susan. Also it's the name of my mom's not-so-nice step-sister so I guess I also have a bit of prejudice that way.

I don't know why people have to spell it Sharron or Sharyn, perhaps it is to help alleviate the dated look of the name.

I personally like Shannon better but really like Sheridan on a girl a lot but I do like the meaning of Sharon and it's connection to the rose of Sharon flower and it's biblical context of Jesus being compared to the rose of Sharon.
So I'm completely ready to learn to like it especially when it's on a sweet little girl probably with brown curly hair. :)

Sharon is a gorgeous name. I don't care for any change in spellings.

I think Sharon is beautiful, even if it's out-moded. I'm reminded of the character in The Parent Trap--and how can one argue with Hayley Mills? :)
