Andromeda
What are your thoughts of Andromeda? It's creeping up into my top ten, I believe. Do you think it would inevitably be shortened to An / Anne / Annie? Any combo suggestions? I like it as both a fn and mn.Thanks in advance!

I've really liked Andromeda for quite some time now. I'd probably never use it, but it's still lovely.

I actually really like the name Andromeda (preferably as a fn). I'd consider using it. I like Annie as a nn for it, just because it amuses me to think about people being unable to guess what her full fn is. I think Annie is a sweet name, so if I ever used it, I wouldn't really mind it being shortened.Let's see...WDYTO:Andromeda June
Andromeda Helen
Andromeda Jean
Andromeda Willow
Andromeda Lenore
Andromeda Lilac
Andromeda Lotus
Andromeda Eloise
Andromeda Louise
Louise Andromeda
Andromeda Winter
Andromeda Maeve
Andromeda Laurel
Andromeda Tamsin
Andromeda Winifred
Andromeda Blythe
Nathalie Andromeda
Andromeda Caprice
Andromeda Mae
Sally Andromeda
Irene Andromeda
Frances Andromeda

There is a character in a book I'm reading...named Andromeda (My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult). She goes by Anna. I kind of like it! I would think it was cool if I heard it on someone else, but I don't think that I would use it personally.

I love that book! I kind of like it, but it bothered me a little that the older sister had such a plain name, Kate, while the younger one was named Andromeda, even though she didn't use it day-to-day.

I love Andromeda. I'm not sure what it would be shortened to, but I think Andy or something along those lines might happen (not that I like that nickname).

I don't like the sound of Andromeda but I think it's a good thing that it can be shortened to Anne/Annie/Andie if the child doesn't like the name and want a more common one.

I don't shorten people's names unless I'm told to - I know many people do - but I'd have thought Andi was more likely than Anne. And I don't think Andromeda is familiar enough to come with an inbuilt nickname. Since she'd be the only Andromeda people ever met, there'd be no convention of shortening it. People call Joshua's Josh because it's just what they're used to.Even before I consciously knew the meaning, I thought Andromeda sounded evil ... like a baddie is a Disney film ... so I don't like it. Sorry.ETA: Ignore the bit about the meaning. I was thinking of Antigone. I maintain that Andromeda sounds a bit devillish though.

I'd expect it might get shortened to Andy or Andie. I think that could be sorta cute. I don't really have strong feelings about this name, though. It's mildly cool and mildly sci-fi.
