It's kind of like KEER or if you said (Keh-ear) really mushed together. Keir is a variant of Kier and is said like you'd think Kier would be. So like Pier without the p sound and a k sound instead. Keir is also short for Keiran one of my favorite names, and Keiran is a different spelling of Kieran and Kieran is the anglicized form of Ciaran, but they are all said the same way. Keir means dark haired or dark skinned or something to do with darkness. My neighbors from Ireland had a son named Kieran, and there was a boy at school when I was younger named Keir. I love the name Keir and Keiran so I have researched it for along while, and have found many deffinitions but they all have to do with the word dark or black in meaning. Also Keiran is the only boys name both me and my boyfriend love. It was kind of funny I had mentioned that name to him many times and he always said it was ok. I always love to talk about names so I'd always tell him names I liked hoping he liked them but not very often, though he loves the names Serafina and Sabriel, but nothing else. Then he was rereading one of his star wars books and says how do you say that name, he's my favorite character and I thought you said it blah blah blah - sorry I don't remember- and I looked and it said Keiran. So I pronounced it for him and he was like I really love that name. And I was like I've been sugesting that name to you forever. And he was like, hmmm well I love it now. He said someone when we have children I'd like a son named that. I agreed too, because I love that name. He was like if we have three daughters instead of two girls and a boy, the third daugther can be named Keira. I like the name Keira but I've known some strnge girls with that name only spelled differently. So yeah if you still are not certain how to say Keir, it's also just like Keira only without the ah at the end. You know like how Keira Knightly says it.
Keiran is my brother's name, but we pronounce it KYE-ran.
My son is Keren and we pronouce it like Kiran / Kieran.
I've never heard of Kier, but Keir is not from Keiran (sadly) it is from Kerr. Check the links.
Hmm..the Keir pronunciation is new for me, but I'm sure it's acceptable too.

Yeah I checked but every other name site I've been to said Keir comes from Keiran or at least means the same exact thing. And a trend I have found is that there are a couple ways of pronouncing Keiran and Keir and I was just putting down my favorite way.
I love this site it is usually correct but I have found a few mistakes not many. This is always my favorite site because it has a larger database than most and is pretty reliable.
