Tamar
WDYT of the name Tamar for a girl? I've been using the TAY-mar pronunciation, since (a) I find it easier and prettier than TAH-mar and (b) it's the pronunciation given in some book I have. But does anyone know if that's the usual pronunciation? (I suppose it's hard to say what's "usual", since the name is so rare.)
Anyway, how are these for combos ...
Tamar Juliet
Tamar Sophia
Tamar Catrina
Tamar Loretta

The Hebrew pronounciation is tuh-MAR, and I LOVE that one, but don't like the others at all.
I knew a Tamar in college, she pronounced it ta-MAHR.
I've never heard the TAY-mar pronunciation, but I can't say whether or not that's a "real" pronunciation or not. But I do prefer tah-MARR, which I'm more familiar with and I believe it's the way it's pronounced in the Bible. The other way makes me think of the word 'tamer'. :b
As for mn's, I like all four combos, but I like the first two the best.

I know a Tamar & she pronounces it TAY-mar. I like Tamar Catrina the best out of your combos. I personally don't like the name Tamar, due to the Bible stories about 2 different Tamars involved in incest (One Tamar posed as a prostitute, seduced her father-in-law & bore him twin boys. Another Tamar, daughter of King David, was raped by her half-brother Amnon.), but I guarantee you that most people wouldn't associate the name with those Bible stories, as they are somewhat obscure. Besides, it really has a nice meaning and a lovely sound to it. :o) Sound-wise, I do prefer it to Tamara.

*Shudder* I'm afraid I only know the most mainstream Bible stories, and hadn't heard either of those. The half-brother rape one is particularly unpleasant ... Hmmm ... Might make me reconsider lol. Thanks for the info!
