I think it's a great name. My dad's called Simon and he knows about a million in his age group but I hardly know any young Simons, so I think it's a good name to pick! I think it's the same with the name Mark - lots of people criticise it for being too common but if you look at lists of popular baby names, it's not on there.
To me both names conjure up images of strong but gentle men that everyone likes. Can't imagine them so well on a baby but I can get past that 'cos I think it's more important to get a name that will fit an adult.
