Lucian
What do you think of the name Lucian for a boy?
Replies
I never cared for it until I took care of a little boy in the NICU where I work with the name a few months back. His name was Lucian (LOO-shen) Alissandro. When I first saw the name, it reminded me of Lucius (which I dislike d/t a bad personal association) and also made me think he might get teased and called "Lucy Anne" when he was older. But he was in our unit for several weeks, and most of the nurses there (me incl.) grew to really like the name just because of this sweet baby. :)
I strongly approve.. I like it. But with one reservation - it's vaguely fey (has been used for vampire characters - can't think of the movie title I should be able to name right now, that had a vampire Lucien in it).

I love it. I have a major obsession with boys' names that end in -an. Plus I have a character named Lucian, and I'm one of those writers who gets very emotionally attached to their characters, so the name has very positive connotations for me.
Griddle cakes, pancakes, hotcakes, flapjacks; why are there four names for grilled batter, and only one word for love?

Sorry but I find it poncy, and envision it on a posh public schoolboy. I prefer the LOO-see-an pronunciation at any rate - the LOOSH-an one is very unattractive to me.

I like it a lot, though I doubt I'd actually use it. it's a very nice name, imo.

So he'll be called Luc ... thumbs down.
I really don't care for it. When it's pronounced LOO-shun, it reminds me of lotion and the pronunciation loo-SEE-un sounds girly / whimpy to me. I most often here LOO-shun and I don't care for the way it sounds at all.

I don't care for it. I do not think it has a masculine tone to it (but don't think I'd prefer it for a girl, because I don't).

I like Lucius better. It is easier to pronounce.
