Where I live Calvin is said cAl-vAn so to me it is the same

Depends on where you're from, I think...As a Midwesterner, Kelvin and Calvin are both KEL-vin. Calvin should be CAL-vin (with the A as in attic), but most of the time, I'm much too lazy to be bothered to say it that way. :)Array

True, but in my accent KEL and KAL are two distinct sounds. Similar, yes, but very distinct nonetheless.
