Doris
Ok, I know this name is super old fashioned, but I like it. I'm a big fan of the actress Doris Day and so I think that helps me to like the name so much. So my question is, do you think you could use it these days or not? I wouldn't use it as a fn, but I can see it as a mn. I think Ruby Doris is very cute. I also like Nancy Doris. I'm sure I could think of plenty more aswell. So let me know what you think. I just asked my mum before and she said she thought there was no way I could use it and didn't like it for a mn either. My dad said it would be cruel to use it!! Ok, well thanx in advance.

I don't care for it, but I know a few Dorises (??) that are less than wonderful. LOL I do have a cousin, though, whose name is Doris and she's very nice and a nurse (she's in her mid 40s). But I don't see her a lot, and she's not what comes to mind when I hear the name, unfortunately. I do think it could work as a mn, though. Ruby Doris is great, but I love the name Ruby so I could deal with any mn with it, probably. :b
I love it

I think any "older" name can be used today (I say this even when I don't like the name, as I think they're still better, than, say, Brick or Kaycie, etc.).
Doris is odd sounding to me...like the words door and is.
The doris closed. The door is closed.
I like the name Ruby, and the combo Ruby Doris does flow, and while I don't care for Nancy (it has a weak tone to it), Nancy Doris flows somewhat, but not great.

My !'s = Kipling, Barry, Mortimer, Miles, Marmaduke, Fletcher, Hiram, Maris, Blanche, Gladys, Arlette, Glenda, Juniper, Lulu
My ?'s = Pasquale, Archibald, Humphrey, Nigel, Bernard, Minna, Doris, Shirley, Cordelia, Gertrude

My mother hates it, but I think it's got a nice sound. I also think it'll be relatively easily revived, especially with a cutesy nickname like Dory.
I like Doris on its own, though. I think it works charmingly, nickname or no. I've even got a doll named Doris--she got named after Ms. Day and loves romantic comedies.
I don't like Ruby Doris, but that's mainly because Ruby Rebecca is the only valid Ruby combo in my opinion. :) I think that Eleanor Doris (or for me, Elenore Doris or Elenor Doris) would be nice. As a first name...Doris Ursula? I'm too tired to come up with anything good. I really like Doris, though. And Phyllis and Roberta and all sorts of other fusty names.
