I prefer Bennett. Benjamin is too overused.

I'd go with Benjamin. I love this name and I think Benjamin James sounds fine together. Bennett is nice too and I don't find it pretentious at all.

Careful about the initials...

I wouldn't use that combo simply for that factor, personally. But between Bennett and Benjamin, I'd choose Benjamin for sure. Bennett is a last name, and it sounds pretentious to me as a first name.

I like Bennett James.

I prefer Benjamin. I have weird associations with Bennett, and even if I didn't I think it sounds more pretentious than Benjamin. And no, I don't think Benjamin James would sound funny, because I say it ben-juh-min jaymz, so the sounds are completely different.

I like Benjamin James. Besides they done even sound the same. Benjamin is like Jam that you put on your bread and James is like Jay-mes.

DH and I are always wondering the same thing, because my dad's name is Beniamino (Benjamin) but since he goes by Ben, either one would honor him.

I would go with Benjamin because it sounds more classic. Bennett seems too surnamey to me.

Benjamin sounds perfectly fine next to James. The "jam" sounds have different vowel sounds and the stress falls on another syllable in Benjamin.

I don't care for Bennett because it reminds me of Tony Bennett, kind of cheesy. ("I Left My Heart in San Francisco.") I've always loved the name Benedict, but now with the pope people might think you're more religious than you are. (Not a bad thing, just another layer to consider.)

Benjamin, hands down! As a side note, I also like Benji.
