Well, as a Midwesterner, born and bred, I'm afraid that I don't see it. When I say Shuan, it sounds vaguely Chinese, or like "swan" with a SH sound.

That's it. In the accent I'm thinking (and I'm 99% sure it's Brooklyn), people say Shawn like "swan" with an SH attached, and the /a/ sound cut short so that the emphasis is on the /oo/ from the W.
