I've actually done Nicknames I know: real life examples. (inc Amelia)
in reply to a message by Mikah
I know an Amelia that's always called Mia as her brother couldn't say her name when he was little. I've always called the Amelia I know 'Millie / Milly', 'Milla' or 'Mills'. I've never heard of an Amelia called Amy. nn vary from person to person. Some come from very round-about ways.Or it's like they way words have changed over the centuries. You can loose entire syllables. Lia is like Mia and the M is just before the Lia influencing it. eg: Amelia - Melia - Mia is one way it could occur. We all have unconscious knowledge of the rules needed to do this.
