Dickon
I've loved the name Dickon ever since I read The Secret Garden. It's especially nice because it's the only nn I like for my dad's name, Richard. In an ideal world, I'd love to name a son Richard after my father and call him Dickon. Unfortunately, I think the teasing potential is too great. What do you think?~ Caitlín

I love the name Dickon too, but the teasing potential would be too high. I've thought about Dicken, but that's just not quite right..."A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession."- Albert Camus

But do you think Dicken would be teased less than Dickon?Because it seems to me that it's the "Dick" part that's the problem, not the ending.~ Caitlín

The teasing potential is too great imoI snickered just reading the name.
I'm too lazy to think of a clever signature.

A big ditto....Hey, "Did you put your dick on today?".Kids can be so cruel teasing other children about their names, but I think this name would have teenagers snickering and maybe even adults.Leslie edd 4/17/05. Baby should be arriving via c-section April 8th, though.

Dickon is just too teasable, plus, it's too surname-y sounding. Go with Richard.

The teasing potential is a bit muchI immediately thought of DIckens. As a middle name, though, its not bad.Siri

To me, the name sounds very 19th-century-novelish .. sort of soft and marshmallowy. Not bad, though; interesting, and a real bearer could quickly overcome that impression. I doubt that if you named your son Richard, he'd want to call himself Dickon at school though - at least not for long, unless he turned out to have a really popular personality that let him get away with it. I do think you could certainly name him Richard and call him Dickon yourself, and let him go by Rick or Rich with his peers if that suited him better. You'd have to try it and see .. it's not an awful idea. I just wouldn't hope too hard that he'd go by Dickon, if I were you.

I agree. I love the name too, but there is a teasing factor. Maybe use it for a middle name?

I agreeIt's a great name, and I've loved it for ages, too, but as a first name - well, I just wouldn't make a kid that easy of a target.
