I have a friend (female) named
Mercury. I dislike the name intensely for both boys and girls, although I'd prefer it on a boy if needs be.
Isis is okay, although it does have very strong connections with the goddess...
Pallas just sounds like "palace", and I don't like it (although it looks quite nice).
I actually like
Pele quite a bit (for a boy only), as I know two people with this name (although one is pronounced PEE-lee, and comes from a Danish name, not the Hawaiian one).
Sappho is quite nice (both the name and the person). It sounds good, and it's actually a great namesake imo...her poetry is gorgeous. However, it is connected so strongly with lesbianism (lesbians used to be called Sapphists) that I don't think it would work in RL unless one lived in an exceedingly openminded community (such as the one where I live) where people wouldn't have negative stereotypes of lesbianism, and would understand that the name honored a
poet, not a sexual identity.
