I think Lyra is lovely. While I prefer LEE-rah to LYE-rah, it's not at all a bad pronunciation. It reminds me of (of course) the Pullman series, which I didn't enjoy particularly well. (On the other hand, I only read Northern Lights, and I keep meaning to read the other two before writing off the series.) I thought it was well-written and all...just not for me.

Hm. I think that Lyra Sophie would be a nice compromise, particularly if Sophie was pronunced soh-FEE.
