Gosh, I don't really have a preference. I like Jeanne nn Jeannie better than just Jeannie, and Ginny as a nick for Virginia. I actually had two people with these names, Jeannie and Ginny, working in the same lab with me -- there was some confusion! But they're definitely prn differently from one another.

I pronounce Jeannie as JEANnee (Jean like Gene not John w/ the hard ee sound) whereas with Ginny its more of a soft ii sound as in the word "in" (LOL). Neither is my style and are considered quite dated in Canada.
