Boris (pronounciation)
Being a Russian and having Boris as my first name for more than 60 years, I cannot agree that it is pronounced BOR-is (that is, the first syllable stressed). In Russian we pronounce it bo-RIS (second syllable stressed). Though my English-speaking friends usually call me BOR-is, of course.

My grandfather is called Boris and we pronounce it boh-RIS nn Borya (pronounced bor-YAH) too.I suspect most English people would continue to pronounce it BOH-ris even when corrected anyway.alice x

You should contact MikeThe owner and operator of this site, Mike C, can be contacted via e-mail here: http://www.behindthename.com/contact.html.Say what you just said about Boris's pronunciation. If you can provide outside an source or two, so much the better, but if you're a native Russian, I don't see why you would need a source per se. At any rate, if Mike finds your information reliable (don't see why he wouldn't), he'll add the pronunciation bo-RIS to Boris's entry in Behind the Name's database.Note, however, that it can take up to a year or even more for your contribution to be added to the database. Mike is chronically backlogged with requests for name additions and corrections.Miranda
