Ophelia
About six weeks ago I started working in my local supermarket on the checkouts. One of my customers today brought her son and daughter into the store with her, and I heard her call the girl Ophelia. Now I love that name, but I wouldn't give it to my daughter (or at least definitely not as a first name). It reminds me of Hamlet too much. What do you guys think of it?

L love it at it is a strong contender for my baby. am i mad to actually use it? it is sooo beautiful. can anybody think of a middle name that may make it an easier first name to handle?

One of the names I grew to love recently. I like both Ophelia and Ofelia... and yes, the Hamlet connection is strong enough, but I've always liked the character (minus being mad :-))

I agree. I can only think of Hamlet when I see the name. But it's still beautiful. One of the many Shakespearean names I love.

I really don't like it, but it's been growing on me.

Ophelia is the name of my ex-boyfriend's sister...I always liked it, but like most of you wouldn't use it for a child.

I love it, but it probably reminds me of that poor Ophelia in Hamlet too much.

It personally reminds me way to much of Hamlet. Beautiful name, and very tragic, but she was rather weak-willed.(jmo)

Hm, I know an Ophelia. She's about 45, she's dropdead gorgeous, and her family's from Greece. I like the name; I think it's beautiful, and any tragic connotations only add beauty to it. It doesn't remind me of Hamlet in particular, but saying it aloud in reference to the woman does vaguely feel like handling a delicate artifact... that's not a bad thing, though, and I'm getting over it. - chazda

It has a pretty sound. But I definitely wouldn't use it because I can only see the Hamlet association, and in a negative way. It's not like she was a character to admire. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she go batshit crazy at the end?
