Lewis because Louis may get pronounced Loo-ee.- Kitty

I think it varies regionallyI've met several men named Louis and I've never heard anyone around here use the loo-ee pronunciation. On the other hand I can't really remember ever meeting a Lewis. I prefer the spelling Louis but only because it's my grandfather's name. In general I don't care for either Louis or Lewis.

DittoThough everything Chazda and Miranda said about Louis being "first" is also true, and that Lewis may be a tad surnamey, I personally prefer Lewis. Despite being an English speaker, I still want to say "Loo-EE" when I see Louis. And Lewis seems somewhat more "regal" and handsome to me.I really like Lewis / Louis, BTW. Very nice name. :)

Loo-ee?Do we have silent S's? Either way I like Lewis, looks better. And Louis is supposedly the french from of Ludwig. I guess which ever you want the meaning to be...

I agree...Although Louis is 'first' and Lewis is a tad surnamey, as Miranda said, I'm an English speaker, so I prefer the non-ambiguous, phonetic Lewis. No one will ever say it Louie. - chazda
