In the beginning I had a hard time understanding that "ie" gave "eye". But now I'm used to it :D
I still have 2 problems though: how exactly are you supposed to write the "e" of men? "eh"? And how do you represent the French sound "u"? lol

I would say EH equals the e in "men"; or E alone (as BtN says in its Pronunciation Guide), if the e in "bet" is the same as in "men".But I can't help you on the French u, since I only know how to count to five and to say few isolated words that I can't remember right now in French.
