Help[Facts] How do you pronounce "Matthias"?
I searched the site's database and it gave me the pronunciation "ma-THIE-as" for the name Matthias. How on Earth is this pronounced?

"th" is like in the word "thin". "ie" is like an "eye". So... like a "thigh"?

And I must admit this is strange to me. THIE is perfectly clear to me--it's like THYE or, indeed, "thigh" (which is an odd word when it comes to spelling, btw).
Then again, the pronunciation guide is written by Mike C, who lives in the exact same area as I do. So we share the same accent, and therefore the pronunciations listed here are more or less immediately obvious to me what they should be. To others, I would of course assume it wouldn't be so intuitive, especially if you're a non-native speaker of English.
Also, lots of the pronunciations depend on your specific accent.

THIE? THYE? What's wrong with 'thy' (or, indeed, 'thigh')? You should always try to use a WORD that everyone can pronounce.

In the beginning I had a hard time understanding that "ie" gave "eye". But now I'm used to it :D
I still have 2 problems though: how exactly are you supposed to write the "e" of men? "eh"? And how do you represent the French sound "u"? lol

I would say EH equals the e in "men"; or E alone (as BtN says in its Pronunciation Guide), if the e in "bet" is the same as in "men".
But I can't help you on the French u, since I only know how to count to five and to say few isolated words that I can't remember right now in French. Lol.
