I guess it would be spelled Vladek, with a special Polish letter instead of "L" - it looks like "l", but with a stroke in the middle...can't explain it really. Any Polish speakers?

I have a feeling "Wladek" is it...I remember that some of the guys he worked with used to call him "Walt" so if Wladek starts with a W instead of a V maybe that's where they got it from.
