[Opinions] Poet?
I was reading an actress named her daughter Poet and calls her Poe for short what do you think of it?

I'm a poet, but wouldn't name myself or anyone else Poet.
Its a GP of mine
I think a little girl named Poet would be adorable.

I like Poet, but not Poe. If it were up to me, there would be no nicknaming there.
I'd never actually use it, but I think it fits the family well.
I really like Poe, but although I like the sound, look and meaning of Poet I don't think it's a good name. I think it's too much to lay on a child, it's so much more an image than profession. And the child might be the most unpoetic person ever.
No, if so, only MN.

I think it is very pretty and lyrical. A hippie bohemian kind of name. Poe is an ok nickname but takes all the prettiness away.
Poet Sienna
Her mother is Soleil Moon Frye - quite the pattern.
Honestly: I don't care for it. I think Poe is cute, but I wouldn't use it for a female.

Dreadful
Poet just doesn't sound like a name. Her daughter is destined to be crap with words.

I like it, as a GP with the nn Poe
Would consider it as a mn only
Makes me think of the teletubbie
Ditto! Clearly I'm not very cultured :-)
Po v. Poe
I know this is really, really silly of me, but the spelling changes the entire feel! I know they still sound the same, but in my mind, when I hear the sound "po" and know it's spelled Poe, it feels right. If I hear it and know that it's spelled Po, it sounds icky and teletubbyish to me. I can't explain it, but my mind automatically fills in the connotations, I think.

I agree that the spelling makes a difference. In general it makes a huge difference to me, cos I'm another one of those people that sees words spelt out in their head :-)
But because we never studied any Poe at school and I haven't read any since, I just don't have enough associations with him for the 'e' to mean anything yet. (I certainly will read some of his work when I get round to it, because i've heard such good things about it here.)
