Help[Opinions] Scout (girl)
WDYT of Scout, I always liked it more as a nn if anything. I recently saw an adorable little girl named Scout in the paper. I really like as a MN. Any FN any suggestions? I'd use it as a FN but I don't think it ages well at all.I have always liked it since To Kill a Mockingbird (my fave book ever), and I know her RN is Jean Louise (hoewever I prefer Scout) but I recently like it again.

To Kill a Mockingbird's Scout was actually named Jean Louise; Scout was just a nickname. I personally think Scout sounds like a tryndee randym word name, and doesn't even have the benefit of sounding remotely feminine.
Maude is lovely, especially as an alternative to the other one-syllable middle names (Rose, Grace, Anne, Lynn / Lynne etc.) so popular nowadays.

Scout is a gp name for me, I don't think I would use it.

Scout is cute for a girl. It doesen't fit a boy to me.

on one hand, but on the other I'm not sure its a name that could really work into adulthood. I think it would be a lovely nn for a really classic name like Elizabeth, Mary Louise (as was the case in the book IIRC), or Sarah. I'd probably use it for Scarlett or as a middle name and then use it ala Vivienne Scout.

I'm sick to death of To Kill a Mockingbird name references. I understand that you might like Scout unrelated to the character from the book, and it's still okay if you like it because of the book, but to me personally that association is more wearisome than anything else. I think that book was so not special to such a great degree that I really have to hold back with my eye-rolling when people go into raptures about Scout or Atticus.
Apart from that, it's too nicknamey for me in a generic 'term of endearment' way than I'd prefer to see used as a real name or a nickname that's meant to regularly take the place of a real name. Kind of like sweetie or peanut or kiddo, you know? Since it's so general, I could see it being used for someone of any name. If you wanted to use it as a sort of 'full time' nickname for someone, I think any name starting with an S would fit well enough. Scout's just a general word that I don't think needs a solidly 'legitimate' connection to a name, etymologically or even superficially.

I used to really dislike it, then I started to read To Kill A Mockingbird in school and for some reason I like it now. Probably because I love the book and the character. It's an alright name, though I doubt I would ever use it.

I like Scout, but I don't think I would ever use it. It reminds me of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter. I like the association from To Kill A Mockingbird, but that really is why I like the name Harper. I think it would be better as a nn, because I don't think it would transition very well when she grew into an adult.
And Maude is nmsaa, I think I don't like the "odd" sound in it.

Don't like it. Scout sounds like Champ or Sport, the kind of nn a father might give his son in a cheesy sitcom. It definitely doesn't sound like a name for a girl, much less a woman.

I love the namesake idea of being from To Kill A Mockingbird. Scout is not a pretty name, obviously, but it has a lot of power and style. I think Scout Louise or Scout Marie sound pretty (i'm of the opinion that Scout must be followed by a nice two syllable name) and as a mn i think Scout would sound nice in say: Elizabeth Scout or Cecilia Scout (a longer name followed by short and sweet Scout.

I think Scout is a really cool name personally... I probably wouldn't use it but I consider it perfectly ok... and personally i don't mind the 'To Kill A Mockingbird' thing... i like that book

I think Maude is an ok middle name too... Though i don't think Scout Maude works very well together... more because of the types of names together than anything else...

I love it, but not for a child. (My dog's name is scout)
Although, for someone else's child i wouldnt mind it.
