[Opinions] Dorothy
Two of my favorite authors were named this, along with a special person in my life. I've never cared for it, but lately it's been coming to mind more and more.I think it's quite cute, but I still can't get over the "old-lady" feel of it. However, I adore the nickname Dot, andt hat makes up for it.I quite like Dorothy June.Opinions?

Yeah, this definitely has an "old lady" feel to it, but you have to think the girl will eventually grow up. Plus, who knows, by the time she gets old, it might sound like a "little girl" name again.

This was the name of my aunt. This is too strange too comment.

I do like it..(m)also like Dorothea, from the "Swallows and Amazons" books.
Off-topic,my father had a sister who died as a 7-year-old, called Dolly, I'd always thought it was a nick-name for Dorothy, but no, it was for Dolina.

Yep, old ladyname of an elderly relative of mine, and it will always be an old lady name to me

I love Dorothy.Minus the obligatory Wizard of Oz comments people throw at me all the gosh-darned time. (But you're not from Kansas, so perhaps not much worry there. :P)Anyways, I think Dorothy has that old-lady charm; sure, it's a little dated, but not *too* much so, KWIM? And Dot is adorable.Oh, and Dorothy June? Fantastic. Perhaps June is a bit old-ladyish as well, but I also think June has a certain spunk that brightens up almost any name. I love June, too. :P

I am rather fond of itIt isn't very common among younger people, but I don't consider it to be totally old-ladyish. I went to school with a Dorothy, she didn't have a nickname that i know of. She works now at the bank, and she is very youthful and pretty and very nice. Also my mother works with a lady in her mid-thirties named Dorothy, sometimes called Dolly. She is also very nice and quite pretty.I know a very hateful old woman named Dot, so I don't think Dot is very attractive. Dolly is cute, and Dori.

I think it definitely has an old lady feel to it, though it's not as bad, as say, Agnes or Gladys. The NN Dorie would make it more youthful.

I love the name Dorothy! This name is on my "favorites that are outdated to some" list. Dorothy June is a nice combo in my opinion.

This is my given first name (spelled differently though), and as a young girl I use my middle name. I catch a lot of flack for it from my classmates on the first day of school when teachers call out "Dorthy," but I get loads of compliments from older and middle aged people on it. I think I can really like it when I get older, but it's best you give her a middle name she may want to go by instead.

Dorothy is okay, and I say that grudgingly. I knew a horrible Dorothy and it's sullied the name for me. However, meeting a young, cute Dorothy would probably change that.I like Dot as a nn for it as well.Dorothy June is okay. I agree that Dorothy has a bit of an old-lady feel and using June as the mn doesn't help that imo.

I agree. I think it's quite cute and love the meaning, but it sounds so dated to me. Dorothy June is very nice.

It's ok. I have a friend named Dorothy that went to my high school. She's an astronaut now which is just amazing to me. She goes by Dottie now, though she didn't back when we were younger. Despite her good association, the name still feels pretty old fashioned and awkward to me. I much prefer Theodora/Theadora with the nn Thea.

I think the "old-lady" feel makes it better. It's quirky without being trendy and it's just...fun. Dot is great as well.

Both Dorothy June and June Dorothy would be lovely. They are nice names, and Dot is cute. I know a Dottie who is my age, so it has gotten over the "old lady" feel for me already.

Dorothy June is beautiful (as would be June Dorothy!). I love both names. Dot is cute, along with Dottie and Dory and Dora.Array

Dora the explorerIs the reason I will never use that name. I honestly don't mind the show, and I think it's one of the better children's shows out there...but being forced to watch it over and over... doesn't make me fond of the name.Dory is cute. :-D THanks. June Dorothy doesn't flow as well to me.

Yeah, Hayley loves Dora the Explora. I have also heard the expression "dopey Dora" which is also another reason why I couldn't use it.

I dislike Dorothy but it goes wondefully with June.

What do you like about it?Do you like Dorothy June?Putting i love Dorothy (thanks for at least remembering to capitalize Dorothy, however I is also a proper noun), answers none of my questions.

I just think it has a sweet sound, and look to it. I know a Dorothy although she is in her 50s, and not what I picture a Dorothy to be like.I have Dorothy Gail picked out, I know it's the name of the girl in Wizard of Oz, but I just love that combo.Dorothy June is sweet.
