WDYTO Ariadne as a first name for a girl? It's a name I've loved for a very long time, but it's been quite a while since I actually considered using it.
I would pronounce it ahr-ee-ADD-nee (the second A as in attic, flag, apple, etc). As usual, comments and combos are appreciated. ;) Thanks.

It's pretty, and I actually know someone by this name. But she exclusively goes by "Ari".
Edited: I didn't even realize this was you posting this, Array. I just blindly responded. You're coming up with a lot of non-Array type names lately, imo. But change can be good, eh? :b

I've been told twice that this one is severely un-Array. I'm curious--what does an Array name consist of? ;D

Wow, this is definitely not an "Array" name in my view, but why not? :)
I'd say ahr-ee-AHD-nee. ahr-ee-ADD-nee sounds really weird. It's either ahr-ee-AHD-nee or air-ee-ADD-nee to me, and combining the two just doesn't work. But it's a nice name said ahr-ee-AHD-nee, though I'm afraid I don't like the other pronunciations at all.
I prefer Ariana and Arianne / Ariane, but I'm quite sure you'll hate them, heh.

Actually, I'm quite fond of Ariane. :D I mostly love how the -ane ending looks. I don't care for how it sounds so much as how it looks, so I'd only consider it for a character--then it doesn't have to sound like anything to me!
And how's it not an Array name? It's uncommon, mythological, has a nice, silvery sound... ;)

I love it. I actually know someone with the name, but I liked it long before I met her. I prefer the second A prn. as ah as it is in Greek.

I adore it. It's one of my favourite girl names - something I'd consider for my daughter, if I'll ever have one.

Ariadne is nice, but the pronunciation seems clumsy to me. I stumble over the syllables trying to say it and the first thing that I think of when I read it is an Arachnid.

I like Ariadne a lot but stangely I tend to pronounce it air-ee-add-nee. I prefer Ariana or Arianna but Ariadne is really very lovely and deffinately usable in this age.

I really am. :D It's sad, but on the upside, I'd much rather have girls anyway.
...Which means, of course, that Murphy's Law is going to bless me with a dozen little boys, every last one of them named Morpheus, Edmond, Nathaniel, or Ray. ;)

I love Ariadne. I pronounce it with all A's short. (I hate to bore everyone again with "no ah in my accent", but it does make a difference!)
It reminds me of Ariadne Oliver more than anyone else. I don't know if you've read any of the Christies she features in, but like Poirot and Marple, she was quite a character :-)
