Congratulations!
Dear Hammel Family,
We have found three wonderful children for you to adopt. Their names are Elodia Marcela, André Cruz, and Melissa Anne. Elodia and André are siblings from Spain. They were orphaned when Elodia was two and André was one. Because André has a moderate stutter in his English speech, he and Elodia have not been considered for adoption by many families. Melissa is a happy-go-lucky four year old who was given to us by the court system after both parents signed away their rights.
Elodia is fourteen years old. She speaks not only Spanish and English, but also Italian and some German. She is hoping to learn Japanese soon as well. Elodia is a very ambitious young girl. She wants to be a translator one day. Elodia is driven to succeed and does well in nearly everything she does. She plays the piano quite well, though she has never had a formal lesson. She is very protective of André, and has helped him the best she can.
André is thirteen years old. He is a sweet kid, but kind of quiet and withdrawn due to his stuttering. He goes to a speech therapist twice a week and has progressed immensely. André prefers to speak only Spanish (because he does not stutter), but we encourage him to speak English as much as possible. André loves to read, and devours any and every book he can get his hands on. He is learning how to swim at the moment and would like to continue his lessons.
Melissa is four years old. She is very outgoing and not afraid to speak her mind. She is very smart and remembers everything. Melissa has a lot of energy, and is currently doing gymnastics to help her get rid of some excess energy. She likes playing dress up and playing with dolls.
We hope that you enjoy these children. Please write back and tell us how they are doing!

We wered delighted to welcome Elodia, Andre and Mellisa into our home. Elodia just started her freshman year at one of the best exam schools in Portsmouth, which she got into despite the different curriculum she had been learning in Spain. She is really enjoying high school and is making lots of new friends. In addition, she is taking Japanese as her foreign language and is playing soccer on the freshman team.
Andre is in the neighborhood middle school in eighth grade. He was a little hesitant and worried about starting school becasue of his stutter, but he has found some nice friends and is beginning to feel more confident in speaking English. He has joined the swim team at the local Y, and is really enjoying that a lot. He also love trips to the college library with Charlotte.
Melissa has started pre-school three days a week, and is in daycare the other two days. She loves gymnastics, and can't wait to join a team when she is eight years old.
The family is planning a trip with all five Hammel children to Spain this summer.
