[Opinions] Liv
Lately I've been loving this name. WDYT? Is it too insubstantial as a given first name? Thanks in advance!

I only like Liv as a NN for Olivia, and even then, I prefer Livvy. It just doesn't appeal to me all on its own.

I like it. You don't hear it very often. :-)
Of course it isn't. Ray, Jay, Beau, Gia, Mia, Leah, Dora, Fern, Ivy, Amy, and so on aren't too insubstantial. Why in the world would Liv be?
For the record, I know a Liv my age, and the name suits her beautifully. It's certainly not insubstantial. I know that the current trend is towards long names and nicknames, but they're not as necessary as people seem to currently think. I remember reading a post on another names board where some woman was looking for a suitable "full name" for Amy, and I was really annoyed. If you want to call a little girl Amy, just do it. Don't search for a full name you don't care about so you can use a perfectly well-established name as a nickname.
This is something that's frustrating me lately, heh.

I think it's really nice.
I really like this name. I know some people don't think it can stand on its own but I think paired with the right middle name, it's great.
i think it is sorrda wierd but i wouldnt mind it for a nick name!
I find it very nny. I really dislike short (letter wise) fns as well. Kai is really the only name short of 5 letters I like as a full name (and even then, I never see myself using it).
Liv reminds me of live - and kind of comes across as a very energic, lively personality. It would seem weird as a full name on someone who was calm and not so energic.
As a nn, its cute - as a full name, I really cant see it on anyone, any age, unless they are very lively.
But thats just me

Thanks for the advice. As for the lively personality, I highly doubt that any child raised by me would be quiet and calm, lol. I pretty much figured it was too nn-y, but I had to get a second opinion.
