Can someone please tell me some origin or history of the surname Blessing?

From my studies, it's been associated with witchcraft, Germany and Ireland. Also a variant of Blessinge/Blessynge.

I have met many Africans with the name Blessing, primarily from Nigeria, Ghana and west Africa
