What do you think of the name Fergus? Associations/Feelings? With the nick name Gus?
How do you think it sounds with possible brothers - Henry, Finnegan, Leo - and possible sisters - Ingrid, Adelaide, Eloise?
Any middle name suggestions? What about Fergus Oliver?

My family is from Ireland (I'm in the US) so this name doesn't seem strange to me at all. It reminds me of Stephen Rea's character in "The Crying Game" before he changed it to Patrick.
The only slight drawback with his brothers' names is you've already got an "F" name, Finnegan. But with an "H" and an "L" name, it isn't so noticeable. Then again, if you call him Gus (love it!) on a daily basis, then it isn't really an issue afterall. Go for it!

This name has always struck me as very "dorky", but that might just be because I associate it with Ferguson, the annoyingly geeky brother on Clarissa Explains It All (wow, I haven't thought about that show in ages!). I think, however, I could become inured to it if I met someone by this name who wasn't consistent with my current stereotype, and I could possibly come to like it.
I think Gus makes a fine nn. I like it better than something like Fergy.I also think it fits in well with your other choices. Fergus Oliver is ok, but I think Oliver Fergus sounds better.

Sorry, but to be honest I think it sounds disgusting! It sounds like fungus.

I love Fergus, though slightly prefer Fergal. I like the nn Gus too.
