[Facts] origin of the name Redding?
Does anyone know the origin of the name Redding?, it's a boys name but I don't know from where. My husband and I quiet like it but would like a bit of background. Someone did suggest its a town in America but is there anything else? Any suggestions for second names to go with it, we already have a Zachary Sebastian and an Annabelle Christina

The English and Scots surname of "Redding" can have one of a few possible meanings. It can mean one who came from "Reading" (from the Old English word "Readingas", meaning "Read's people"), a town in Berkshire, England.
It could refer to one who lived in a clearing, from the Old English word "ryding", meaning "clearing".
Or it could refer to the color red, a person with red hair, or a person with a ruddy complexion.
