I love it and I don't think it fits into any of those descriptions. My great-grandmother was a Pearl, and my daughter has the middle name Pearl. I think it's cute, and works well from infant to old age.

I had an Aunt Pearl, who would be well over 100 if she were alive.
So first I think of her, but it's not a strong association. Otherwise, the name seems refreshing and different, but not odd, not unusual, not quirky and definitely not as if you are trying too hard. Just using a classic name that could stand to be revived.

I don't like it, not sure why. Like some,guess I find it "old lady-ish." I certainly wouldn't think the worse of parents who'd name their child Pearl-not my style I suppose. Also, I tend to pronounce it "purl", as in knitting.

I love it as a fn (but moreso as a mn, but only because there are other fn's I love more and it sounds great as a mn with so many of my faves :b), though until the last 5 years or so it struck me as way too "old-ladyish". But now that's more of an attraction than a deterrent to me, lol. I find it a bit quirky, in a good way, but the other descriptors don't really 'fit' imo.

It reminds me of my great grandmother Mattie Pearl from Nebraska. I think that is sounds lovely as a first name for a little girl today especially since it hasn't caught on yet in nameing trends, at least not that I've heard.

Pearl is a lovely name and one of my favourites. The impression I get when I hear the name Pearl is that it belongs to a gentle, sweet, old-fashioned kind of person who is artsy and creative. If I met a wee one named Pearl, I would think the parents did a very good job in naming her and must've put forth a lot of effort to find a name that was neither common nor boring. :)

Life before four Oscars and twelve Oscar nominations...

Well to me it is rather posh, very elegant, and a bit old-fashioned. The first thing I think of is an older lady, very upright and elegant and proper. I think that parents giving this name to their daughter would most likely honoring a relative. I think Pearl might be very sweet on a little girl though perhaps a bit heavy. Pearlie would make a cute nickname in that case and might lighten the name a bit.

I think of an old woman with white hair, when I hear the name Pearl.

I think of it as old-fashioned and Asian. I think because all the "Pearl"s in the stories were either sweet old ladies or little Asian girls. But maybe I need to widen my reading selection. = ]

I find it beautiful, but not really any of those that you listed. I don't classify names really.
