Hmm. My father grew up in Somerset so I can't think of it as a personal name, Mr. Maugham notwithstanding.

It sounds like a nouveau riche way of crashing the gate. It turns me off, sorry. (I'll probably get flambe'ed for this comment, but it's my honest reaction.)
