[Opinions] Alphonia - questions | long post (sorry)
I was thinking about names for character I could draw today and searched if name "Alphonia / Alfonia" (from Alfonso or Alphonse) already exist or not,
since I find it pretty and never actually met anyone with that name.
https://www.names.org/n/alphonia/about
That's what I found besides some social media accounts, brands, obituaries (as a last name too) and ancestry sites.
What do you think about this name and how good would usage be?
Sounds too old for modern use?
Or maybe you don't like it because you dislike Alfonso?
*similar case to Alberta or Frederica I imagine
Do you like Alphonsa or Alphonsine better?
Do you think it's too close to word "Aphonia" that describes "loss of voice and of all but whispered speech"?
Tell me your honest thoughts :)
combos:
Alphonia Elfrida, Alphonia Renee, Alphonia Estelle, Alphonia Ife, Alphonia Noelle.
Give me yours if you have ideas :3
I ended up not drawing her yet, because of reserach haha.

Sorry, it does remind me of aphonia. I think it would work fine on a fictional character, but 'phonia' makes it sound too medical for a real person's name.
If you want it to be clear that it's a feminization of Alphonse I think Alphonsia, Alphonisa, Alphonisia, etc, would be better for that. Maybe it's me, but I wouldn't have assumed Alphonia was related to Alphonse.
Combos: I like Alphonia Estelle.

Right I thought it sounded like a condition, it sounds like aphonia.
Nothing to be sorry about, I posted and asked because I wanted to hear different opinions. Thank you for yours ♥

I'm not a fan.
I don't like that the name sounds like phony.
It's a little old-fashioned, but old-fashioned is back in style.
I like Alphonsa or Alphonsine better. Or, Alfonsa, Alfonsia, or Alfonsine better.
However, phony and aphonia give the name clout as a character name.

Thank you so much!
1. What do you think about this name and how good would usage be?
I dislike it, but I think it's a good character name if it's your taste.
2. Sounds too old for modern use? Good for any person or only POC?
It sounds old, but I don't think any name is too old for modern use, especially since it's a trend to bring back old names. I don't get why it would be a POC-only name.
3. Or maybe you don't like it because you dislike Alfonso?
I don't mind Alfonso.
4. Do you like Alphonsa or Alphonsine better?
Alphonsa is pretty. I don't like Alphonsine.
5. Do you think it's too close to word "Aphonia" that describes "loss of voice and of all but whispered speech"?
It would be if I had heard of "aphonia," but I haven't. I'm guessing most people won't have heard of it either.

Thank you for all your answers ♥
Second question in second point was because on those ancestry sites, obituaries and two social media accounts it seemed like it's most people are people of color... now
I see how silly this question was, my bad.
