[Opinions] names I saw doing genealogical research
Replies
I’ve always had a guilty pleasure for Garnet.
I like:
Elizena
Serphina (I like Seraphina if it's a typo, but Serphina is cool too if it's the real name)
Oresephus (reminds me of Orpheus combined with something else)
Rosewell
Cordelia
Maleila (this seems like it could be popular now depending on how you spell it. Maleila looks good but I could see people 'Mikaylafying' it like Malayla, Maleyla, Milayla)
Garnet
Merlaine (this could grow in me, it seems like a feminized Merlin or Merle and the end sounds like Elaine)
Lorelie (well I like Lorelei, idk if this was a typo or a variation)
I can't tell if Phillipann was a boy name like Phillip with a suffix or a girl name pronounced like Phillip-Ann
Also can't tell if Albby is a typo for Abby or a version of Alby / Albie

I'm willing to gamble Serphina and Albby were a simple case of the census taker misspelling, for instance
Something that someone had explained to me on here while I was doing more of my own genealogy research is that sometimes some of the names are a "typo," a misspelling, or whatnot because the census taker or the records keeper of the era didn't know how to spell it correctly.
That had actually put me down a rabbit hole, and I read about a case where a woman from a couple of hundred years ago stated that she saw her name spelled two different ways before, and she wasn't sure which one was the "correct" one for her.
With that said: I like Elizena, Rosewell, Jarvis, Cordelia, Garnet (I too had a male Garnet), Merlaine, Lorelie
