I'm surprised Bardot is not in the database, with the fame of Brigitte Bardot. Does anyone know the definitive origin of the name?～☆September Song Recommendation☆～

Bardot is derived from Bard, from the Germanic name Bardo, derived from barta 'battle axe'.

The only origin I can see is French bardot mule/hinny, from Italian bardotto, from barda pack saddle, horse armor, ultimately from Persian via Arabic. The Italian bardotto though also means errand boy, apprentice, both reasonable occupation surnames, which not common but is still in use.

Bardot has two potential origins: from a short form of a Germanic name containing the element Bard or Bart; or from a hamlet whose name refers clay soil.

This is what I found online...The name Bardot is a French name that originated in medieval times. It comes from the word bardot, which refers to a type of cloak or cape that was worn during that period.

That's what I saw too, but I couldn't find any reference to an article of clothing by that name...
