The year is 1919. (Five Years Later)
In the meantime, there was a war to end all wars, and now "in Flanders Fields, the poppies grow...:"

Hugh thought the war would be over in a few months. He kept putting off enlisting until he was drafted in 1916. During the physical, they decided Hugh had a touch of tuberculosis so they dismissed him. Hugh and Mabel decided to travel to America for his health. They brought the kids and some of the servants. Mabel and Hugh kept fighting, especially in 1917 when they lived out west. In 1918, they moved to New York. Mabel met an aspiring author stationed in Camp Mills on Long Island and started dating him. Hugh divorced Mabel, and went back to Cranbourne Park with the children and the servants. The children are fond of their nanny, who has been there the whole time.

Family 2- Rodchester, Minnesota, & Lyon, France
ex-DBF(1892): Dr. Roy Edward Sandstrom (Wordsmith) (ishild also picked Roy)ex-DGF/DW(1892): Elizabeth Ingrid Lindholm Firmin "Beth" (Cinnabar) (also Genevieve, Guest, Ohad Yigal picked Elizabeth)
DH(1888-1917): Edgar Aubert Firmin (Story (Mason Thursday))
-DD(1915): FN: French & English MN: French LN: Firminex-DBF's Roommate (1892): Ennis Patrick O'Callaghan (Amoret)Beth's degree was in journalism; so while in France, she sent information about events in France back home, mostly about daily life and the aftermath of the battles. She wrote everyday in her journal as well as letters to friends, family and her beloved husband. They welcomed a daughter in 1915, and while Edgar wasn't there, they agreed on a name in their letters. In 1917, Edgar died. Beth was devastated and left France when it was possible. She moved to Minnesota with her daughter.
Roy was drafted soon after he graduated from medical school. He spent a few months doing intake physicals, before going through training and sent to work in battlefield hospitals. He saved many lives and many limbs, but not all. He has returned home and is now working at the Mayo family's practice. He got to see Ennis, who was a pilot during the war. Both he and Beth are haunted by their time in France. Their families are hoping they'll get back together, but for now, they're just best friends.

Though less affected by the war, they were still delighted when the Armistice was signed in November of 1918. They are currently expecting another baby in 1919. This baby will have the initials E. M. after an older relative who died recently of "Spanish Flu".
